Andros, in the out Islands
Would you believe it? Roger called after lunch in the afternoon to tell me that we are flying to the Bahamas that evening and that we had to be at the airport at least an hour before the flight at 8pm. This, after weeks of trying to convince him that we should go on a vacation and that he needed to take a break from his grueling schedule. I had almost given up trying to get him to leave his precious office. Apparently, he was listening to me and he too felt the need for a relaxing holiday. He quietly bought our air tickets on line and called Emerald Palms resort on Andros, in the Out Islands, Bahamas and booked a villa on the beach for two weeks..
I packed all the sunscreen and beach wear I could find, so that we don’t have to go shopping as soon as we landed. We could spend all the time on the beach, go diving or fishing or sign up for a nature hike. I am a freelance writer, so I can work from anywhere, anytime I choose.
I had heard about the Blue Holes or water filled cave systems on Andros and. I do have some cave diving experience, so I took a guided tour of the Blue holes, both inland and in the ocean. Andros, the largest island in the Bahamas is a preferred bone fishing destination too and Roger wanted to try his hand at bone fishing. The Out Islands are well known for diving and snorkeling too. The proximity to the barrier reef and the Tongue of the Ocean, known for its wall dives, makes Andros in the Out Islands an ideal destination for divers. We saw some awesome marine life and corals when we went diving. .
Our two weeks in Andros have just flown, and we have not even explored a fifth of the Out Islands. We plan to come back to the Bahamas, in the near future.
